Principles of Fish Quality Assessment training for fishmongers
Selling good quality seafood, including fish, is a key part of a successful fishmongering business. How you and your colleagues handle and store your fish has a big impact on its quality. We (Seafish) offer a half-day Principles of Fish Quality Assessment training course which is ideal for people working in a fishmongers. This training course is theory based and covers the mechanisms of spoilage, methods of assessing fish quality and focuses on the Torry assessment scheme for round fish, flatfish and salmon. All learners who actively participate in the training course receive a Seafish attendance certificate. However, there is an optional online 90-minute open book test which can be taken after the training course. For learners who are successful with the test, they will receive a Seafish qualification.
Our approved trainers are fish quality assessment experts with many years of seafood experience. They deliver this four hour training course via Zoom. So, each learner requires an electronic device such as a desktop, laptop or tablet with a functioning microphone and webcam as they need to maintain a live audio and video feed with the trainers throughout the training course. This ensures that effective two-way communication is maintained between the trainers and the learners. The standard cost is £150 (no VAT charged), however people who work in a UK fishmongers are eligible for 50% funding from Seafish, making the funded cost £75 (no VAT charged) per learner.
