The NFF Fishmonger of the Year Award is dedicated to recognising our vital sector within UK retailing and we want to reward vibrant, progressive, locally based businesses who go the extra mile.

Created to champion best practice in our field, the awards will celebrate the incredible work being done and recognise high standards of service, presentation, skill and initiative

Two Phase

The NFF Fishmonger of the Year Award 2024 has a two-phase judging process and is open to all NFF members whatever the size or format of your business.

How to apply?

Entering is straightforward and easy - we don’t need anything complicated, just tell us what you do and how well you do it. Be proud of your business and give us as much detail as possible for your entry.

Phase One

The first stage of judging is based on your paper submission and supporting video, so try to make sure they cover as much as possible!

Your video will be used by the NFF on our website and social media to promote your business.

The video should be no longer than 5 mins. It doesn’t have to be professional, just use your phone!

Try to capture some or all of the following:

  • Your fish display counter
  • Your shop interior layout and design
  • Your team at work, serving customers, setting up your display, preparing products
  • Your fish preparation skills
  • Your product provenance and quality
  • Your customers
  • Whatever it is that makes you unique!

We want to get as much detail as possible about your business, so make sure you let us know what it is that makes you and your team unique.

Our judging panel will initially review and assess your paper and video entry. This panel is made up of your peers - impartial, experienced fishmongers who are Committee Members of the National Federation of Fishmongers.

The panel members will review the entries and select the finalists.

Phase Two

The judges will arrange a visit to your business to assess the everyday operations of your business.

This is a vital part of the judging process as it gives us the opportunity to see the business running on a normal day and see how you interact with your customers.

The Winner

The overall winner will be announced in 2024 and will hold the title of NFF Fishmonger of The Year.

The winning business will receive 500 branded cool bags (worth £1,500) designed especially for them with their shop name, logo and 2024 Fishmonger of the Year to market their achievement and help promote their success
